2020 Double Championship Obedience & Double Rally-O Show

Updated: 18-03-2020

After much planning and preparation, it is with a heavy heart that we have to announce the cancellation of our 2020 Championship show event.

As I’m sure all of you are aware of the ever-evolving situation surrounding COVID 19 and the ripple effects this is having not only on everyday life but the dog fraternity too. As a club, we have been left with some very hard decisions surrounding Saturday’s show.

At Waikato Canine Obedience Club, we take the health and well being of our judges, stewards, helpers, competitors, and spectators very seriously. Like many other clubs and volunteer organisations tackling the issues associated with COVID 19, we are being guided by the Ministry of Health (MOH). As well as taking the MOH guidelines into consideration, we have sought our own medical advice, the Committee has decided that it is in the best interest of all involved to cancel our show at our Bristol Park club ground on Saturday 21st March 2020.

For those that had entered, we thank you for your continued support. We were pleased with the number of entries we received, it is great to see the number of people still getting out and supporting the clubs. At this stage, we have no plans to reschedule the show in 2020 however we will be keeping a close eye on the situation. We are planning on returning in 2021.

We would like to give a special acknowledgment to our Judging panel. As a club we contacted each Judge and asked whether they were still prepared to judge on Saturday, every single one of them said yes. Their commitment to the sport, its competitors and the clubs is almost unmeasurable, that they are willing to potentially risk their own health for our sport to continue. We are grateful for that support but are pleased that we are no longer asking them to put themselves at risk.

This decision has not been made lightly by our Committee and we are all disappointed, to say the least, the decision was made in the fastest time frame possible and needed all the information gathered so we could make an informed decision on the well being of everyone concerned and the wider community.

Keep safe and we hope everyone manages to get through this pandemic with as minimal impact as possible.
